Saturday Workshops
Turkish Taverna Dance
Men & women will learn 'freestyle' open floor dance by
becoming more familiar with the modern Ciftetelli 2/4
and Roma Gypsy 9/8. Students will go beyond the
basics and practice how to embellish while facing
another person. This can include playing zills but its
not required, so do bring them if you wish. This is not
a shimmy class so no coin belts please but do bring a
hip scarf. Katherine Goldsby is a Mediterranean dance
specialist who has been teaching, lecturing, and
performing in the Western US since 1991. Katherine is
the head administrator for The Voice of Roma and is a
member of the audition staff, as well as the event crew,
for The San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.

Veil
The veil dance is one of the most
romantic and beautiful pieces of a Belly
Dance performance. You can use your
veil with the power and strength of a
matador, with the grace and beauty of
Aphrodite or the mystery of a cloaked
priestess. Whatever you choose your veil
work can add depth, dimension and
fantasy to your dance. Learn veil work
basics, spins, poses, tricks and beautiful
combinations – please bring a rectangle
veil.

looking to add some saucy new moves to
your repertoire , or a tribal dancer ready
to try something a little different, this
workshop is perfect for you! Always been
curious about leading on the left? We will
break it down! Join WildCard BellyDance
as we share some of our unique tribal
combinations and transitions! We will
show you basic movements as well as
some of our signature dynamic combos,
and teach you how to string them
together improvisationally by using visual
cues and seamless transitions. All skill
levels welcome, but be prepared to come
and dance! We will practice what we
have learned by breaking into small
groups and dancing together, so bring
your finger cymbals!

Beginning Belly Dance
We will go through a potpourri of isolation
movements for upper torso, hips, arms,
shoulders, rib cage, hands. We will briefly work
with some simple steps, posture, and carriage,
and work with some simple dance combinations.
For the one hour class, information will be
abbreviated to give students a firm survey of belly
dance basics. No time for cymbals in this class.
Wear comfortable clothes for movement, dance
shoes if you prefer, water, a sash to wrap around
your hips.
